Danny Harp
Associate Minister

Danny's Core Responsibilities . . .

  • He oversees the various adult education facets of the church
  • Gives direction to the overall assimilation process
  • Is actively pursuing an effective small group ministry
  • Preaching and Teaching

Five ways to describe him . . .

  • Dedicated to God, the church and his family
  • Authentic and compassionate
  • Fun to be around
  • Open and expressive
  • Charismatic

What other people are saying about him . . .

  • He has character and integrity.
  • He is the friend everyone wants to have.
  • He loves his family.
  • He is passionate about what he does.
  • He is committed to the churches purpose.

Where did we find him . . .

We found Danny when he sent us a resume looking to relocate to Ohio in an attempt to be closer to his family in Wilmington and to Tammy’s family in Indianapolis.

What he did before he was here . . .
  • Danny served his home church, the Wilmington Church of Christ, for nearly ten years as their Minister to Youth from 1989 to 1998.
  • Danny served the Chester Christian Church in Chester, Virginia from 1998 to 2005
Where he learned his stuff . . .
  • His parents and grandparents!
  • 1985 graduate of Wilmington High School in Wilmington, Ohio
  • 1990 graduate of Johnson Bible College
  • Continues to work on his Master’s in Practical Ministries at Cincinnati Bible Seminary.
His salvation experience . . .

Danny grew up in the Christian church and always consider himself to be a “Christian”, but it was’t until the summer of 1985, the summer after his senior year in high school, that he realized his singing, his life, and his very being needed to be turned over to God.  It was then that he will tell you he was saved in every possible way a person can be saved.

What it's like working at North Terrace . . .
  • He wanted to work at NTCOC because he immediately recognized a leadership and congregation who wanted more than the ordinary…he wanted to be a part of taking ministry to the next level.
  • He oversees the various adult education facets, gives direction to the overall assimilation process, is actively pursuing an effective small group ministry and mentality for NTCOC, and preaches for our Sunday evening service.
What is his creative background . . .
  • Danny began acting and singing in musical theatre at a very young age where he learned to cope with the stresses and demands of an audience.  Danny, by nature, is a loner and has a shy side, but his passion for music and bringing people joy has stretched him into the very public profession he finds himself in today.
  • Danny began his love for hearing people laugh at the age of five when he started doing impersonations of Edith Bunker, Flip Wilson, Tom Jones, Paul Lynde, and Engelbert Humperdinck.
How he stays on top of trends and developments in the industry . . .
  • Danny’s “industry” is people.  Therefore is spends plenty of time with people watching and listening to the various relational, emotional, and spiritual needs that are present in their lives.
  • He credits his graduate work, books, and God’s very Spirit in keeping him fresh and up-to-date.
About his Family . . .

Danny’s wife, Tammy and his children, Hannah and Brady are at the very heart of who he is and what he does.  Danny does not want to get to heaven one day and see five-hundred people he had a hand in bringing to the Lord and not be able to find Hannah and Brady.  Being God’s son, Tammy’s husband, and Hannah and Brady’s Dad are the top priorities in his life.

What he Loves . . .
  • His family
  • Tammy’s ability to make their home a haven for retreat!
  • White Castles, Seafood, and Cream Soda!
  • Hearing people laugh
  • A clean and organized house!
  • 4-H and the County Fair!
What he hates . . .
  • He hates getting splashed or for something to drip on him!
  • Being without shoes on his feet
  • Clutter
  • Anything sticky…like a melting popsicle, a sucker, or honey.
What are his Pet Peeves . . .
  • Poor manners
  • Selfish people
  • Poor parenting
What makes him laugh . . .
  • Bloopers in general
  • America’s Funniest Videos
  • Watching Tammy trying to keep a straight face when she is mad at him.
What makes him cry . . .
  • People being treated unfairly
  • Abused children
  • Reminiscing about his grandparents…they were awesome people!
His greatest fear . . .
  • Being without Tammy
  • Someone close to him passing away and for him not having told them how important they were to him.
  • Thunder storms
  • Missing an opportunity to experience something new.
What are His secret ambitions . . .
  • To live in the White House
  • To get his pilot’s license
  • To meet Nicole Kidman (ok, to spend a day with Nicole Kidman)
  • To have back his 1968 baby blue Mustang (his first car)!
  • To ride in a fighter jet!
Other Places His Talents Have Taken Him . . .
  • Danny has accepted invitations to perform in Africa, Austria, England, Germany, and Poland.

  • Danny once sang back-up for Little Eva (original recording artist of the “Locomotion”).
  • He is a weather channel and CNN junkie!
  • He, at one time, was certified to grade eggs and judge layer hens.
If he wasn't a minister . . .

Danny’s original plan, before being grabbed by the Lord for ministry, was to go into the Air force, refine his skills and become a shuttle pilot, go into politics, and become president.

When he is not at the office . . .

  • Washing his car!
  • Cleaning the house (he loves doing that)!
  • Time in the Hammock with Tammy.

Best advice to aspiring preachers . . .

He would give the same advice that was given to him.  All of which were given to him by his home minister, colleague, mentor, and friend, Arthur Merkle.

    • “When you want a new congregation, make yourself a new man and then you will have a new congregation!”
    • “Never ever make a decision regarding ministry when you are angry!”
    • “Ministry is great, if it weren’t for all the people!”
