Baptism FAQs

  • When we enter the waters of baptism, we proclaim the gospel message. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and lives again. Through baptism, we’re identifying ourselves with Him.

    Romans 6:4, 1 Peter 3:21

  • We believe the Bible teaches that a person accepts God's grace by putting faith in Christ and the life-long process of sanctification (becoming more like Jesus every day) begins, with the individual repenting of their sins and being baptized by immersion.

The process of sanctification continues throughout the life of the believer through the work of the Holy Spirit.

    2 Corinthians 3:18, Acts 2:38, Galatians 3:27

  • At North Terrace, we do our best to do things in alignment with what Scripture says. In the New Testament, baptism was performed by full immersion in a body of water.

    Acts 8:38-39, Colossians 2:12

  • We baptize children who are ready to make the decision for themselves. If you or another parent thinks their child is ready for baptism, we will have conversations with the child about the weight of that decision and move forward from there. If the child approaches us directly, we would have the same conversations with them and also make sure to include family members and have their approval as well.

  • In Scripture, baptism is a ceremony that happens when the believer first claims Jesus as Lord of their lives. There is no need to be baptized again. We also understand that there are times when believers wander off track and want to publicly recommit their lives to God. In that case, we recommend a simple “re-dedication” in which you affirm once again your original claim that Jesus is Lord and are immersed again. There are also instances when someone has been sprinkled as an infant or baptized as an infant in another setting in which they did not make that choice. In those cases, it would be very appropriate to do a baptism by immersion.

  • Anyone who is a brother or sister in Christ. It can be a minister, a friend, a family member, a small group leader - anyone who has previously given their lives to Christ!

  • While you do have to be baptized to become a member at North Terrace, our baptistry is no different than the one at any other church. If you have already been baptized by immersion you can become a member by letting one of our staff know.
